Debate for Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party - 3.19.11
Collins Hill High School, Suwanee, Gwinnett CountySue shows winning form in debateThe North Georgia New Generation Republican Women held a debate on Saturday, March 19th at Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia. The evening event was held in the school theater, which was set up for an emcee, a moderator and three podiums for the candidates. The stage was well set, and Julianne Thompson, emcee and organizer, started the proceedings with a flourish, introducing the moderator, Jim Galloway of the AJC. A veteran of debate and forum events, Galloway moved the program along quickly, using questions which had been submitted to him previously, and threw in some of his own, which made things more interesting. Each candidate was also able to ask questions of the other two, and Sue answered her questions with the knowledge and direct manner that made her answer easy to understand. Sue also asked her own questions, one of which led to conversation among the candidates and prompted a follow-up question from the moderator. As she did at the North DeKalb Forum earlier in the day, Sue kept her focus on the Party and avoided quips, quotes and jabs at the opponents. She preferred instead to give the audience the information they needed in order to know more about her and the leadership necessary to run a successful State Party. All too quickly it seemed, the candidates were asked to make their final statements. Sue finished strong, drawing the largest applause of the evening. After the candidates made their final remarks, Julianne came back on stage to close out the evening.Afterwards, Sue was surrounded by people many of whom were excited by her words. Many thought that Sue won the debate and told her so. They had a good point since on this Saturday evening, Sue displayed winning form!

The North DeKalb Republican Women's Club hosted a Forum on Saturday, March 19th. The guest speakers for the Forum were the Candidates for Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party, which will hold elections at the Georgia Republican Party State Convention on May 13-14th in Macon. The North DeKalb Republican Women hosted the Forum at the DeKalb County Republican Party Headquarters in North Atlanta. The headquarters had just undergone a makeover and cleanup after the recent County Convention and was a beautiful backdrop for a lively and informative meeting of the candidates.
The Forum started just after the invocation and pledge. A lot of ideas were put forth in the short time the event lasted, and Sue was able to talk about what the Georgia Republican Party had accomplished with help from Republican Women across the state, working with the many people in the room, virtually all of them a part of the many volunteers who powered the Republican election wins in Georgia last November. Sue was also able to talk a little about the future of the Party noting 2012 and redistricting were on her mind. Though the Forum sometimes wavered into other topics, Sue was able to keep her topic and her focus the Republican Party, and in particular, her vision for a successful future for the Georgia Republican Party. The result was that many in the crowd agreed that Sue did indeed shine in the NDRWC Forum and that her plans and ideas were the best ones for the party. Many stated their support for Sue. In a few words, it was a great morning for Sue and the North DeKalb Republican Women, both of whom seemed to greatly enjoy the time spent together that morning.Forum at North DeKalb Republican Party Headquarters at Embry Hills in North Atlanta

March 8, 2011
A M
eet & Greet event for Sue was held at the Varsity Town Center on Tuesday, March 8th, from 6:30PM to 8:30PM. A good crowd was gathered to hear Sue and almost as important, to eat some Varsity dogs and rings. Sue started the meeting by recognizing members of
the crowd, friends and supporters, who had gathered there on a weekday evening to hear her speak. Sue discussed the party and mentioned those who had given her help along the way. This event was a bit different from party visits since this was a campaign event., and Sue was able to hand out campaign buttons. As a result, most everyone in the crowd was wearing their “Sue’s the One!” button, adding color and excitement to the evening. After the brief speech, Sue was able to visit people in the crowd. Virtually everyone stayed and enjoyed the famous Varsity dogs after the meeting. This was a perfect opportunity for Sue to talk in a relaxed and informal setting where she received valuable feedback from supporters. After talking to everyone, Sue was able to go down to the counter and respond to the famous “What’ll ya have?” and get some dogs and rings of her own. Sue rounded out the night by having a great Varsity dinner surrounded by friends and supporters. A very
good evening at Town Center Varsity in Kennesaw!

Sue at the Henry County GOP in McDonough
March 1, 2011
On Tuesday March 1st, Sue went to the Henry County GOP meeting in McDonough. This was the 4th time in the last year that Sue has been able to visit Henry county, either with the Republican Women or the County Party. The night's meeting was to be a Forum with candidates for State Party Chairman able to give their ideas on the Georgia Republican Party. Chairman Mike Eddy started the meeting and introduced candidates as they were to come up to speak. Sue spoke first and laid out the accomplishments of the State Party and noted the election night accomplishments of the Henry County Party as well. Sue noted the things the State Party did during the 2010 election to help candidates and local parties succeed. Sue also noted the things the Party is doing to get ready for important upcoming events like Redistricting and the 2012 Presidential Election. The crowd enjoyed Sue's presentation and gave many positive comments after the meeting as Sue took time to stay and talk to as many attendees as possible. Henry County GOP Chairman Mike Eddy made a speech at the end of the meeting to let everyone know he would not seek another term as Chairman. Sue was able to go by and wish him well before leaving. It was a great meeting with a growing county Party – one of many great Republican Party organizations both in the Southside and around the state.
In Memoriam This week, the Georgia Republican Party was deeply saddened by the passing of a very dear friend, Mr. James T. Henry, Sr. of Henry County
"James Henry has been the patriarch of Republican Party in Henry County for as long as I can remember. He was a man of great humor, a dedicated convention attendee and a committed grassroots activist. His hard work for our conservative cause is commendable and he will be deeply missed." said GAGOP Chairman Sue P. Everhart. Mr. Henry was 95.

Golden Isle Republican Women’s Club Meeting February 19, 2011
Glynn County was the destination for Sue on Friday & Saturday, February 18th and 19th. Upon arriving Friday evening, Sue was able to get together with a number of the leaders of the Glynn County Republican Party for dinner and conversation. It was a productive but early evening as Sue was set to visit the Golden Isles Republican Women to speak at an early Luncheon meeting the next morning. As the keynote speaker at the meeting, Sue discussed many topics, one of which was women running for public office. The crowd was very receptive as Sue covered much ground about the State Party and upcoming events such as County Conventions, the State Convention and how the Golden Isle and Glynn County Republicans could take part. Golden Isles Republican Women's Club President Ruby Robinson did Master of Ceremony duties and moved the program along quickly. There were a number of people from other counties in attendance as well. Sue won over the crowd with her own story of succeeding in the business world and after that, in the political world. She noted many good examples for Republican Women wanting to get more involved and have more impact on their state and community. Before leaving, many in the crowd expressed their excitement at going to their county convention as well as district and state conventions. They expressed eagerness for success in Georgia in the 2012 election cycle. After leaving the meeting, Sue was able to go back to Atlanta by way of Jesup, and stopped for a little while at the well known Sybil’s Restaurant. Sue and Sybil found they had many things in common, not only when it comes to good food, but also leadership. Sue had a good trip and enjoyed the hospitality and strong Republican presence on Georgia’s coast.

Sue addresses the GGRW meeting and gives a recap of the history making Georgia Republican victories last November. In 2010 Georgia had the second highest number of Republican victories on the state and federal level. Republicans swept every Constitutional Office, re-elected U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, and built on the majorities in the Congressional Delegation and the General Assembly. Several of the Constitutional Office gains were the first in the state's history.
Sue listed the reasons why she is the most experienced and best qualified candidate for GA GOP Chair in 2011. Her vast experience leading our party as GA GOP First Vice Chairman and Chairman for the last four years amply qualify her to lead the GA GOP during the important redistricting in 2011 and the presidential election in 2012. Out state GOP does not need to be turned over to inexperienced leaders for these two critical years. VOTE SUE in 2011.

Thursday, February 10th, 2011
Sue with Harris County GOP Chairman Jenny EckmanGA GOP Chairman Sue Everhart attends the Harris County GOP BBQ on Thursday night as an invited guest and speaker.
The Harris County Republican Party held a BBQ Dinner on Thursday, February 10th to honor Georgia DOT Commissioner Vance Smith of Pine Mountain, who was chosen to receive the Bo Callaway Award. The event was held in the new VFW building in the town of Catuala in Harris county. After a great Barbecue dinner, Commissioner Smith was presented with the Callaway Award, a striking figure of a Eagle on the wing, set upon a plaque. This is a truly impressive award that well reflects the spirit of the pioneering Republican that it is named after. Immediately following the presentation of the Callaway award, Sue spoke and congratulated Commissioner Smith and noted the Harris County Republican Party’s work in the 2010 election cycle. Later, Sue was able to meet with the attendees, all of them very excited about the strong Republican showing in the last elections and about the growing Republican party presence in their county. It was a great visit with enthusiastic county party members. Special thanks go to Harris County GOP Chair Jenny Eckman and the Harris County Party for their hospitality.

Thinking Right
Jim Wooten's recent article in the AJC regarding Sue Everhart, GA GOP Chairman -- Dec.16, 2010 ●Unlike Democrats, for whom governing has been an extension of the party, Georgia Republicans don’t have a history of governor-designated party heads. The rank-and-file do that. Gov.-elect Nathan Deal has a candidate, Tricia Pridemore of Cobb County, who co-chairs his inaugural. Sue Everhart, also of Cobb, the first woman elected to head the Georgia party, has no plans to roll over — nor should she. She’s served well, modernizing computer systems, adding security and equipment, building the e-mail list from 2,000 to 250,000, expanded fundraising and assisted every statewide candidate, including Deal. Everhart’s eligible at the May state convention for a third and final two-year term. She’s earned it. She should get it.

GA GOP ends year with massive cash
advantage
By James Salzer - the Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionYear-end campaign filings show Republicans not only dominant at the ballot box, but in the bank. The state Republican Party reported late last week that it ended the year with slightly less than $1.2 million in the bank after having spent $7.7 million during the 2010 campaign cycle.
The Democratic Party reported $135,367 on hand and a debt of $57,000. The Democratic Party reported spending $7.8 million, but much of the party's money came from the national Democratic Governors Association. Read complete article.

Message from Sue Everhart, GA GOP Chairman - January 5, 2011
Today, Georgia’s Congressmen took their oaths of office at the United States Capitol. On Monday, Governor-elect Nathan Deal will take his oath of office as will the rest of our newly elected Constitutional officers, all of them Republicans. Deal becomes only our second Republican Governor since Reconstruction. In addition, we will observe the largest Republican majority in the Georgia General Assembly in the post-Reconstruction era.
Our elected officials will face many difficult choices over their terms, including finding a way to resurrect our economy. In Georgia, legislators are constitutionally required to balance our state’s budget, which will be no small task as our stimulus funds end.

Dick Yarbrough: Tea Party flame-thrower needs to check his facts - Re: criticism of Sue Everhart, GA GOP Chairman
Bill Evelyn is listed as the head of the State of Georgia Tea Party, LLC, which seems to be just one of several tea party organizations in the state. He got his name in the newspaper - and in this column - after he sent out a mass mailing this past week claiming that current State Republican chairwoman Sue Everhart of east Cobb, who is seeking a third term to the post is - shudder! - "one of the most liberal members of the Georgia Republican Party" and should be defeated. , , , Bill needs to take a cold shower and then check his facts. He may have missed a couple of small details in calling the above "liberals." The American Conservative Union gave Kingston and Isakson a 96 rating in 2009 and Chambliss a 92. One hundred is a perfect score with the ACU. Click here to read more of this most interesting story on the Marietta Daily Journal

9:34 am December 6, 2010, bySue Everhart of Cobb County, on Saturday declared that she’s not ready to leave – and would run for a third two-year term at the party’s state convention in May. She made her announcement at a breakfast meeting of Cobb party regulars. “The chairman is elected by the grassroots. The governor does not appoint. There’s not a problem if the governor wants a particular candidate. I respect his wishes, but I am going to run for re-election,” Everhart said this morning in an interview.

Comments from Bob Mayzes about Sue Everhart - December 16, 2011
Here is the text of my comment submitted to be posted to the MDJ article. -- Bob
I know Sue Everhart about as well as anyone in Georgia Politics. I am neither a liberal nor a moderate as evidenced by my 7 years service as chair of Bartow County Right to Life and 6 years on GRTL Pac. In 16 years as GAGOP Treasurer, I served with 5 State Chairmen. I have known Sue during most of that time. Sue Everhart governs her life and service by conservative principles.
Sue rose to her current role out of the grassroots based on very, hard work and service to the GAGOP at every level. She understands and respects the role of the grassroots. That is why she embraced the Tea Party concepts. Sue understands that it is the role of party leadership to get Republicans elected not to pick between candidates. That is the role of the electorate.
Sometimes, the electorate gets it wrong i.e. John McCain (who is not a conservative), even so it is not GAGOP leadership’s role to pick candidates. This year there were more candidates in GAGOP primaries than at any time in history. Sue remained neutral and treated all candidates with respect and without favoritism.
As for the two individuals that are announced as running against Sue, both of them are fairly new to Georgia Republican Politics. I first heard of Shawn Hanley when he ran for Fulton County Chair 4 years ago. I didn’t know Tricia Pridemore until just this summer. I can’t speak to their values or qualifications because I really don’t know them. What I do know is that neither of them comes close to matching Sue Everhart and her demonstrated results as State GAGOP Chairman.

Please note that Chairman Everhart did officially announce her intentions to run for one more two year term in early December 2010.

J. Randolph Evans
Column No. 1044 (11/24/10) ▪ Read complete article. . . Here is where the numbers are really impressive. Chair Sue Everhart's Georgia Republican Party
coordinated 700,000 volunteer phone calls, distributed 100,000 yard signs and 300,000 door hangers, sent 103 mail pieces, made 34 television buys, trained 250 activist leaders, and visited 25 cities as part of the Real Jobs for Georgia Bus Tour. To make all of that happen, Sue Everhart and her finance team raised millions of dollars.
Add it all up and the result is one unbelievable election cycle. Chair Sue Everhart has not formally
announced whether she will seek another term as Georgia GOP Chair. (Under the Georgia GOP term
limits rule, she is eligible for one more term.) And, governors typically get to pick their Chair. But, based
on Chair Everhart's results, Republicans would have to assume that it is hers for the asking . . .
